Studio Visit in Athens, GA

I took advantage of my daughter's orientation in Athens, GA and paid a visit to my dear college roommate Susan Hable Smith of Hable Construction at her newly renovated studio. She moved an old farm cottage from the outskirts of Athens and tucked it into her garden with a few new components.
Susan is an extremely talented textile designer and artist, she and staff are currently working on beautiful new collections...
I get inspired every time we're reunited. Go sistah!

Also while in Athens we tried a great restaurant called The National. Inventive and delicious food with great prices.
Summer salad with fresh Georgia peaches, watermelon, arugula, basil, mozzarella, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar
Anchovies with pickles peppers and caper berries
Chicken confit
Sautéed okra and chick peas

Layering Rugs

Whether in your wardrobe or home, there is nothing better than a perfectly - but not too perfectly - layered look. Intentional layering should look like it's come together over the span of many years, keepsakes and objects that have been collected over time. It's the rugs you inherited from your grandmother, a cross you picked up in San Miguel, a lacquered box you found in Shanghai. Together all of the seemingly mismatched odds and ends that represent your life come together in a look of totally lush, fullness. There is nothing sparse about the home of a collector. With that being said, we think there isn't anything cooler than rugs casually layered on top of one another.
While we were in Texas we found the best source for overdyed Turkish rugs - a trend we're definitely buying into. We just received another order of these perfectly distressed rugs and because we're not afraid of mixing colors we did plenty of layering. Here are some pictures from the store.

And yes that's an antique zebra hide peaking out from underneath a black bamboo coffee table and two vintage stools!

Jewelry by Zee Designs

Yesterday Donna Mathews, the beautiful and sweet creative behind Zee Designs, dropped by the office to show us her work. We loved it and bought everything she had brought for us to see!
It's interesting, sexy, and perfect for any girl looking to add a bohemian vibe to her wardrobe.
Oh, and the best part for every beach girl - you can wear it in the water!

The warm weather we've been having in Florida is right on cue for the styles we've been gravitating towards - island vibes, tropical influences, and california palms.

Round Top, TX

It's been a while since our last post but here's a little adventure the girls here at Bohlert Massey went on at the end of March - road trip to Round Top, TX!
In the spring and fall Round Top, TX (Population 99) welcomes thousands of visitors to their twice yearly antique fair.
Going down a long stretch of road there isn't anything but pastures and trees, then suddenly, there are tents! And more tents... and more tents! All packed with interesting objects and antiques.
There isn't one specific "Round Top Antique Market" there are at least 20 locations, all with their own hours, dealers and names. Some are open for 3 weeks and some for 5 days.
It was our first trip to Round Top and we did as much as we could in the four days we were there but it was impossible to see everything!

These mirrors are in the shop now.
